Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the film was groundbreaking for several reasons. It was the first Indian production to be shot in China and the first Bollywood movie financed and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, signaling a major push into the Indian market by a Hollywood giant. It also featured the first-ever fight sequence filmed on the Great Wall of China itself, a feat achieved after negotiations with the Chinese government.
