John Osteen (1921–1999) was a foundational figure in the modern charismatic and Word of Faith movements. Long before his son, Joel Osteen, became a household name, John Osteen established Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, transforming it from a small converted feed store into a global powerhouse.
Central to his message was the concept of unwavering faith. In his books, he details seven qualities of this kind of faith, including that it "hears and sees what the world cannot see or hear" and that it "prays earnestly even though it has already heard the answer".
