Having finally returned to their beloved Central Park Zoo at the end of the second film, the animals are miserable. They realize their true home is with each other, not in a cage. Deciding to leave New York for good, they quickly find themselves on the run from the relentless and terrifying Captain Chantel DuBois (Frances McDormand), a French animal-control officer obsessed with capturing Alex.
