The Internet Archive is a non-profit digital library with a mission to provide "universal access to all knowledge." It acts as a digital time capsule, preserving billions of web pages, software, music, books, and, crucially for us, video games. For the original Xbox—a console no longer in production whose online store has long since shut down—websites like the Internet Archive are vital for preservation.
Original Xbox DVD drives (made by Thomson, Philips, Samsung, or LG) are dying rapidly due to failing lasers and degraded rubber belts. Running games from an HDD bypasses the optical drive entirely.
